Preparation:
Chill all the liquid ingredients, then pour them into the bottle.
Add the remaining ingredients directly to the bottle. Do not exceed the maximum fill level of 720 ml.
Insert an iSi Soda Charger into the rod, then screw it onto the bottle until you hear a hiss.
Leave the rod on the bottle until the foam has settled and the hissing stops.
Enjoy over ice.
The Winter Spiced Negroni combines the bittersweet, herbaceous character of a classic Negroni with warming winter spices. It pairs well with savoury, lightly salted foods and bold flavours that complement the cocktail without overpowering its spice. A classic Negroni is made with gin, Campari and sweet vermouth.
Salty bites for an aperitif
Olives, toasted almonds and spiced nuts complement the drink’s bitterness. Grissini with cured ham or crostini topped with herb cream cheese are also good choices. Their salty, savoury flavours create a balanced contrast to the slight sweetness of the vermouth.
Cheese with character
Serve it with mature mountain cheese, Gruyère or a flavourful hard cheese. Their salty, aromatic notes stand up well to the cocktail. Blue cheese is another option, but serve it in small pieces so its intense flavour doesn’t overpower the spices.
Savoury accompaniments
Small tarts with mushrooms, onions or caramelised chicory bring earthy, slightly sweet flavours to the aperitif table. Thinly sliced roast beef or a selection of cured meats also works well. Season the food lightly so it complements the bold cocktail.
Winter vegetables and mushrooms
Sautéed mushrooms, beetroot or oven-roasted squash make tasty warm bites. Thyme and rosemary echo the gin’s herbaceous notes; a splash of balsamic vinegar can complement the earthy flavours. Use it sparingly so the food doesn’t become too sweet or tangy.
Finish with chocolate and orange
Dark chocolate, candied orange peel or simple almond biscuits make a fitting finish. The chocolate’s slight bitterness and the citrus notes of the orange echo flavours commonly found in a Negroni. Very sweet desserts, on the other hand, can make the drink taste even more bitter.
How to serve it
Serve the Winter Spiced Negroni well chilled over ice. An orange twist adds fresh citrus aromas and complements the warming spices. A few carefully chosen bites are all you need for an aperitif, leaving the cocktail centre stage.
